That’s taken from the opening track to Mick Jenkins mixtape ‘Trees & Truths’ (which I highly recommend by the way) and it was what I was listening to when this idea came to me.
What if the story of God, Adam, Eve, The Serpent & The Tree of Good & Evil could be applied to modern day, to the life we currently live? You might think I’m stretching for something that isn’t there but give me a few more minutes and see what you think. If you were to describe what a godlike character/individual would be like, what would you say? I would say the most powerful and most intelligent, now who on earth can that be attached to? Well the people at the top of the rankings, the bourgeoises, the people that control important and influential businesses in this world. People like Rupert Murdoch for example.
Who plays the part the devil played in this world?
I know in the bible, the devil came from God but if I was to relate it to humans, must it be someone that came from the higher ups? I can’t give an example of the individual that can be like that? So now the role of the serpent (devil) can be anyone, anyone that triggers questions and offers information. This information can lead to good and bad, good for some people and bad for others depending on how you interpret it. If we now look at it like that, the role the devil played is played by hackers, conspiracy theorists, war lords. The actions they take lead to some good and evil, the information they allow people to access can lead to them lashing out and committing crimes or it leads to them knowing the world better and keeping a watchful eye.
The tree and the fruit is knowledge, it’s information we are not allowed to access. Everything that is forbidden and we are Adam & Eve as we are the subordinates.
So now I hope you understand what I mean and how the biblical story can be attached to the modern world. The devil has his plans, so does God and the good almost always prevails.
