“Jerry: Oh so there’s still hope? George: I don’t want hope, hope is killing me. My dream is to become hopeless. When you’re hopeless you don’t care, and when you don’t care, that indifference, it makes you attractive.” A quote from the US sitcom “Seinfeld”.
Is hopelessness attractive? First off what is hope? Hope is defined by Oxford dictionary as ‘a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen’. Having hope is doing something or being in a situation and having expectations of the situation, expectations that it leads to something good.
Hope is a killer in my eyes, it is not a bad attribute to have in you but a dangerous one when a situation does not work out in the way you expected. If I could guess, I would say hope is a major player in certain suicides and heartbreak. Suicides in terms of an individual has gambled all their money away because of the hope that they will win, buying a lot of shares of a company, giving your all to someone and hoping it rises. The individual would have invested a lot of thought into this idea and would have painted a picture of what the success of the risk would lead to, whether it be a better car, phone, a better relationship/understanding or whatever they have risked and then if the end product is not what they expected, things turn sour. Their hope has died, he or she is lost and could be on the brink. Hope can kill.
Hopeless is the opposite of hope so it is having no expectations. It is usually looked at in a negative light, not caring and not being ambitious. A hopeless person would gamble away all their money, buy many shares, give their all to a person and not have an expectation, they would not be expecting anything, whatever happens happens and then they get on with life. A hopeless person plans for tomorrow in my eyes as they did not picture a good ending so they know what to do next before anything happens but a hopeful person has painted a picture of rainbows and stars without a thought of what if it does not work out like that.
A mixture of the two is the better option you could say, being positive but also not getting carried away. You have to be able to take risks and not be expecting the best at all times. Be hopeful but also plan for “what if scenarios”. Most millionaires and billionaires have this trait fully covered as they can participate in one in a million deals but also have an idea of what they would do the next day, week, month and year if things do not go to plan.
I always do whatever it is I want when I want and not expect the best. I do not also expect the worst, I do not expect anything. I do what I do and have my next move ready for whatever happens. I always say do what you want and whatever comes from it is a bonus. There is always a blessing if you look deep enough.
